3 Days Samburu Private Safari
This reserve together with its adjoining counterparts (Shaba & Buffalo Springs Game Reserves), is within the lands of the Samburu tribe, a Maa-speaking pastoralist & nomadic people closely related to the Maasai. This arid reserve with an eco-system traversed by the grand Uaso-Nyiro River and lying on the northern half of Kenya is rich in wildlife and birds, with rare animal species endemic to the arid north conditions. They include the Grevy zebra, reticulated giraffe, long-necked gerenuk (giraffe antelope), the scimitar-shape horned Beisa oryx and the blue-shanked Somali ostrich. Others include lion, cheetah, the occasional leopard, elephant, buffalo and hippo among others.
Itinerary
Day 1: Nairobi - Samburu National Reserve
You set off early morning (recommended time 7:00am) and drive past the pineapple town of Thika, turn left at Makuyu through to the equator city of Nanyuki where on a good sky-clear morning you might be able to see the snow-capped Mount Kenya (standing at 5,199M high on the majestic Batian, Nelion and Lenana Peaks). You will then proceed to town of Isiolo and to the reserve using Engare Mare Gate (just before Archers Post). Arrival at your camp is in time for lunch followed by a short rest. Later in the afternoon, a game viewing drive in the reserve follows to run until sunset and then return to camp.
Dinner and overnight at a game lodge/camp (L, D).
Day 2: Samburu National Reserve
A full day spent in the pack inclusive of game drives in the morning & afternoon up to River Ewaso Nyiro (the reserves lifeline). Attractions here are incredibly different from the common wildlife that we find on the southern parts of the country; these are adapted to the arid conditions here, making the reserve a special showcase, all these amidst the dotted acacia with Koitogor & Ololokwe Mountains visible. In the evening you return to your camp/lodge for overnight.
Dinner and overnight at a game lodge/camp (B, L, D)
Day 3: Samburu National Reserve - Nairobi
After breakfast you depart for your drive back to Nairobi City to mark the end of your safari.
Key: L Lunch, D Dinner, B Breakfast.
